Let's Get Acquainted!

Hey y’all! Welcome to week 1 of Berry’s Book Blog! I am so happy you’re here. Before I get into my current and favorite reads, I’d like to hear from you.

First things first. Are you a physical book reader or a Kindle/device reader?

For me, I'm both. During my first year of reading, I was strictly a physical book girlie. I honestly had no urge to even look at a kindle, because I didn’t think I would ever enjoy reading and not being able to physically see the progress I’m making. Not to mention, working from home and staring at a screen all day really bothered my eyes and gave me unbearable headaches, so I couldn’t fathom staring at another screen for my relaxing time. My stubborn self was justifying spending $10-$15 a book a week because I was so happy I had found a hobby that I thoroughly enjoyed. However, after a couple months of that, I realized I couldn’t be spending so much money a month on books (that's called maturing if you ask me!). So, I started to research Kindles and came across the Kindle Paperwhite. A Kindle with a “paper-like” screen so it won’t hurt your eyes. I saved up some money in gift cards and bit the bullet last November for the Kindle ($149) and the Kindle Unlimited subscription ($10 a month).  Let’s just say… I’m OBSESSED. Don’t get me wrong, I still love a physical copy, but I definitely enjoy reading numerous books a month for only $10! My toxic trait is reading a book on my kindle, really loving it, then buying it as a physical copy so I have it forever. Am I really saving money? Probably not.. Lol.

Now onto my current read: Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton. I just started this book, so I don’t know much about it yet. There were mixed reviews and the first couple of pages were a list of trigger warnings. I am definitely in for a wild ride… Will keep y’all updated! Have you read it? Give me your thoughts!

My book recommendation for the week is Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak. This is a thriller and I rated it 5/5This book wraps you in with the perspective of a girl, named Mallory, who just got out of rehab looking for a job. She finds a nannying position that she truly loves. The parents are sweet, the little boy is fun, and the pay is good. Teddy, the little boy, is never far from his sketchbook. His usually fun drawings turn sinister, and Mallory wonders if the unsolved murder in their backyard has anything to do with it. She becomes hellbent on trying to decipher the images to save Teddy. But is it too late?

My favorite thing about this read is that Rekulak included the pictures throughout the book instead of just describing them. It added a great visual to go off of and made the book so much more intriguing (and a little extra scary I’m not gonna lie).

Newly added to my TBR pile: The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez, and The Only One Left by Riley Sager. Have you read any of these? What have you added to your TBR pile recently?

I can’t wait to hear everyone's thoughts!! Have a great week!

Lots of Love,

Mads :)

I love reading on my new Kindle paperwhite! I also love reading a real book too. The convenience of reading on a Kindle or on the kindle app on my phone is just so easy. When I finish a book, I can immediately pull up another one that I have in my library. I like being able to “shop” for books from home and reading the reviews before downloading a new one.
The Nightingale is a fantastic read! I read it several years ago and definitely recommend 100%!

Hi!!!
Omg I love this mads!! I’m definitely a kindle girly but love my occasional hard copy once in a while!! Life has been so busy lately I haven’t had as much time as I’d like to read. I read several books over the summer though while I was off work!
I have heard great things about the Nightingale! It’s on my TBR also! I think my next up read though will be the Inmate by Freida McFadden!
Love you, have a great week :))

Hi!! I’m a kindle lover too with the occasional audiobook! I’ll probably talk myself into a Kindle Unlimited subscription too sooner or later but for now I’m using Libby for all my books!

Is Haunting Adeline a thriller? It sounds interesting. Also, I’ve read Hidden Pictures too! I agree, the pictures definitely added to the scare factor in the book.

I haven’t read any of those books in your TBR, but I do love Riley Sager! I’ve read The House Across the Lake and Final Girls by him and gave both 5 stars.

Hope you have a good week too mads! <3
